Mil is the standard unit of measurement for poly/plastic bags. Also known as a thou or a point, a mil is one-thousandth of an inch. For reference, human hair is roughly 4 mil thick.
Most poly bags will be available in the 2-3 mil range, with some specialty bags coming in at 1.5 and 4 mil.
